If you are fond of visiting parlors for getting new hairstyles every now and then, watch for the chemicals being used. Ensure about their harmfulness. Avoid using harsh chemicals by yourself too. Don’t use shampoos, dyes and other products which contain harsh chemicals. Your hair damage is mainly because of the abrasion of the layer of cuticle on your hair strands. These cuticles tangle with those of other hair and give rise to breakage.

Regular Cleaning
Regular cleaning of hair is very necessary if you want healthy hair. Wash hair weekly thrice; if this is not possible, wash them at least twice weekly. While washing, don’t apply shampoo or water as if you are washing clothes in a machine. Don’t pile hair atop your head rubbing them vigorously over each other. You may think that this process cleans them, but it is not true. More than cleaning, it harms them. So also, rinse hair once again after you think that the shampoo has been washed off so as to ensure thorough cleansing. Use clean combs, towels, pillows and pillow covers and bed sheets. Whatever comes in contact with your hair should be clean. To prevent dust from settling on the hair, wrap a scarf around them.
Go Herbal
Use herbal products for hair. Traditional herbs like German primrose are of tremendous use to hair. It has been proved from studies that German primrose is useful for regrowing hair in patients alopecia areata. You can steep leaves and flowers of German primrose or herbs like sage, borage or evening primrose in hot water and strain out solids. Massage the infusion in the scalp and leave for 20 minutes. Wash it after that to get healthy hair.
Oil
Oils like coconut oil, olive oil or almond oil are always considered to be good for health of hair. But you have to remember not to use them excessively or for excessive time. It is enough to apply 2 to 3 tablespoons (or even less) oil to the scalp and leave for just half an hour and then wash it off. You can do this thrice a week just before washing hair. Excessive oil or keeping it excessively in hair may clog the hair follicles giving rise to dandruff, breakage and other hair problems.
