Though everyone knows that pregnancy massage is beneficial mostly anytime during the pregnancy, many women are hesitant to have its benefits, because of some misconceptions, which they read, or hear from other ladies, and so on. Actually it is necessary to consult your obstetrician and get all the myths cleared and be benefited from the tremendous qualities of pregnancy massage.

Many ladies think that it is not good to massage feet during pregnancy. This is a misconception. In fact, it is the time to get your feet massaged, as your feet need release of joint pressure and swelling. But it is also true, that you should appoint a pregnancy-certified massage therapist for massaging your feet. This is because, there are some acupressure points on your feet, which if massaged rigorously, may result into contractions. It is very useful at the time of labor, but till then, these points should be avoided and only a qualified masseur can do this appropriately.

Another myth is the essential oils used during massage are dangerous to the health of mother and baby. It is not the truth. Essential oils are not dangerous; they are just loaded with chemicals. Therefore, some massage therapists avoid them, just to avoid the chemical load on the would-be mother.

Some ladies get worried about their baby, if they have taken a massage and then find out that they are pregnant. They need not panic. Actually taking pregnancy massage in the first trimester may lead to miscarriage. If you have taken massage quite a long back, you don’t have to worry at all. A one-shot aromatherapy massage using essential oils is nothing more to worry about, than the fumes of petrol while filling it in your car. Yes, some expensive essential oils are used specially to induce labor, but due to their high cost, they are not used in regular massage.

So, keeping in mind that the pregnancy massage is not to worry about, but to be happy about, you should take its benefit, of course, after consultation with your obstetrician.
